Who We Are
Lorie Chan
With over a decade of hands-on experience, I specialize in helping dogs and their humans build stronger, more balanced relationships through thoughtful, customized training. My approach is rooted in creativity, communication, and understanding the dog in front of me, no matter their background or behavior.
It wouldn’t be until 2013 I formally entered the dog world, providing pet care, working in dog rescue and later dog training, where I refined my ability to read canine body language and temperament across breeds and size. In this time I’ve trained numerous dogs to exercise on treadmills, swim, and worked on behavior modification and basic obedience.
My indoctrination into dog training started like most new dog owners - trial by fire. Beemer, my first dog as an adult, came out of the shelter as what many would consider “perfect”. After all I’d watched all the videos, read all the books etc. it felt like over night when he turned out to be human aggressive - two years later. I looked into all the local dog trainers, and no one was willing to risk taking on our case. Until I found a small local group that worked with dogs of all temperaments, sizes, breeds, and issues. Slowly, I felt l was gathering the tools to manage my dog, and reverse stereotypes of tools. It was here I learned about dog sports. While I wasn’t confident enough to participate, Beemer learned to swim, run on a treadmill and run next to a bicycle.
Following Beemer, I adopted Tommy, my first Belgian Malinois. Unbeknownst to me he came to me with 2 broken legs, and IBD so our ability to do the high flying sports was going to be limited. That didn’t stop us from traveling the California coast to get over 15 titles and teach both children and adults the value of training! Tommy taught me how to advocate for my pets and modify activities for dogs that were limited. He was a constant reminder that dog training was supposed to be fun! Unfortunately, Tommy left us in June 2025 but his lessons and spirit remains to be the foundation of Ichibone.
In October of 2025, Inigo Baka Montoya Vom Cascade, AKA Baka, a Belgian Malinois, became the face of IchiBone Dog Training. I’m excited to learn new lessons from him and have him be a pivotal member of the IchiBone pack.
In every experience, it’s important that families remember we’re all a team. It’s critical to understand what the owners expectations and priorities are so families can lead successful healthy relationships with their pets.
